Songs of loss and healing
As you know, Kerr County, a couple hours west of Austin, was devastated by flooding on the night of July 4th. It’s been awful beyond words.
If you can, please consider donating to the Kerr County Relief Fund, or contribute to one of the many fundraisers listed by the Texas Tribune.
And to understand the situation, read this first-person article by Texas Monthly’s Aaron Parsley, “The River House Broke. We Rushed in the River.” It’s powerful, brave, and heartbreaking.
In times like this, I understand the feeling conveyed by the words of “Real Death” by Mount Eerie:
Death is real
Someone's there and then they're not
And it's not for singing about
It's not for making into art
When real death enters the house, all poetry is dumb
That said, in case it’s helpful to you now or in the future, I’ve put together a few songs that I turn to for comfort, in the hopes that they might bring some to you and yours, too.
Be safe, and thank you for reading,
P.L.U.
